BOULDER CITY, Nev. – On the strength of a sizzling back-9, sophomore Elliot Parker turned in an impressive performance in his debut at the NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday at the Legacy Golf Club in Nevada.

In the opening round of the 72-hole event, Parker closed with a 32 (-4) to finish with an even-par 72. He is currently in a 15-way tie for 46th place in a field of 221 golfers.

Parker kicked off the day on a high note, firing a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He went on to record five straight pars before running into trouble, shooting a pair of bogeys and a triple-bogey on the final three holes of the front nine to card a 40 (+4) at the midway point.

On the back-9, Parker shot par or better on every hole, including birdies on the par-4 11th and 13th. After three straight pars, he fired an eagle on the par-5 17th hole and closed with his 11th par of the day on the 18th pin.

Parker's 72 was easily the best round in team history at the NCAA Championships and was eight strokes better than the previous best set by teammate Mike Ford in the second round of the 2022 event.

Two different courses are being used for this year's Championships and on Wednesday, Parker will compete at the Boulder Creek Golf Club starting at 8:30 a.m. PDT. He will be aiming to become the first golfer in men's team history to make the individual cut at the NCAA Championships and just the second golfer in school history to achieve the feat, following Kayla Diaz C'24 at the 2022 Women's Championships. After the second round, the field of 43 teams will be reduced to 18, along with the top-six individuals who are not on one of those teams.

Jackson Klutznick of Emory University currently holds a one-stroke lead with a 64 (-8) while Methodist University leads the team standings by one stroke with a 271 (-17).
