MADISON, N.J. – First-year Head Coach
Brendan Michael earned a victory in his head coaching debut, as the Drew University women's soccer team topped Manhattanville 1-0 in its season opener Friday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Senior
Alexa Krause, a returning all-conference and all-region performer, scored in the 19th minute for the Rangers, who outshot the Valiants 14-8. She attempted a cross from the right side but had it deflected back to her, and she booted in the deflection from the center of the box.
Sophomore
Sarah Crowley, the reigning Landmark Conference Co-Rookie of the Year, turned aside three shots to earn the shutout.
It was a triumphant return to the Forest for Michael, who also competed for the Drew men's soccer team from 2007-10 and took over for long-time Head Coach Christa Racine this past winter.
The Rangers return home on Tuesday, when they take on Stockton at 7 p.m. in another non-conference matchup.
