MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore
Nate Keller and senior
Kevin Kiernan posted one goal and one assist each and the Drew University men's soccer team earned a 2-1 non-conference victory over Manhattanville University Saturday evening in Ranger Stadium.
The Rangers (4-1-1), who are undefeated over their last five matches, outshot the Valiants 23-13 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Graduate student
David Hoyt made a career-high seven saves for Drew while Luis Granados stopped six shots for Manhattanville.
Drew never trailed after Keller converted a through ball from Kiernan in the 39th minute, striking from the top of the box and the Rangers led 1-0 at the half.
The Blue and Green doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, when Keller's cross was deflected by the keeper before Kiernan banged it in for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Valiants broke through in the 78th minute, when Mason Chetti rebounded his own shot that was deflected by Hoyt and off the crossbar.
Hoyt stood tall down the stretch, making three of his stops over the final seven minutes, including a pair of stops 13 seconds apart in the 84th minute.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Tuesday, when they visit Vassar College in another non-conference outing starting at 4:30 p.m.
