NEWARK, N.J. – Junior
James Cahill scored a goal for the second game in a row and the Drew University men's soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie versus New York University in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
The match was played at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium, the home field for New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
The Rangers (4-2-2) struck first, when Cahill struck in the 21st minute off a feed from sophomore
Nate Keller and Drew went into the half leading 1-0. Cahill also provided the Rangers' lone goal in the team's 2-1 loss at Vassar College this past Tuesday.
Drew outshot NYU 4-3 in the opening half, when it did not yield a shot on goal. However, the Violets (3-1-2), ranked eighth regionally, came alive in the second half, outshooting the Rangers 11-5. Graduate student
David Hoyt saved NYU's first four shots on goal before the Violets broke through in the 85th minute on a tally from Daniel Gutierrez.
Each side took one shot down the stretch, but neither were on frame.
Hoyt finished with four saves for Drew while Jackson McCloskey stopped two shots for NYU.
The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit DeSales University in a non-conference outing starting at 2:30 p.m.
