MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team competed in its second home tri-match of the season on Saturday in Baldwin Gym and came up on the short of a pair of decisions.
The Rangers 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24) to DeSales University in the first match of the day before falling by a score of 3-1 (16-25, 25-6, 25-21, 25-7) to Union College to close out the afternoon.
Versus DeSales, junior
Teeya Desgoutte led the Rangers with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 assists while sophomore
Alyssa Rachwal distributed 20 assists. Junior
Emily Shirk served up four aces while senior
Genevieve Sarinelli scooped 21 digs.
Freshman
Lindsey Millis paced Drew versus Union with her first collegiate double-double, posting 11 kills and 12 digs to go with three aces. Desgoutte contributed seven kills and 15 digs, and Rachwal handed out 23 assists. Sarinelli registered another 20 digs.
The Rangers gave DeSales a battle in all three sets and outscored the Bulldogs 15-8 to start the match. Drew held a 19-13 lead before DeSales rallied with a 12-3 to run to end the set.
The hosts led 16-15 in the second set before the Bulldogs rallied. DeSales led just 22-20 before scoring the final three points.
Drew led 20-17 in the third game and was serving for set point at 24-22 before DeSales closed the match on a 4-0 run.
The Rangers came out strong once again in their second match of the day, outscoring Union 5-1 to start the contest. They led 8-3 before the Garnet Chargers (11-3) came back to make it a one-point game (9-8); however, Drew took control with an 11-2 run to open up a 20-10 lead. The Rangers led by as much as 12 before holding off a late Union rally.
After the Chargers evened the match at 1-1, the two sides played to a close third set before Union pulled away late. The Chargers led 14-7 in the fourth set before ending the match on an 11-0 run.
The Rangers continue their season next Saturday, when they travel to Stevenson University for a tri-match starting at 2 p.m. Drew takes on Lebanon Valley College at 4 p.m. before facing Stevenson at 6 p.m.
