Women’s Soccer Ties King’s

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Maeve O'Murchu scored in the game's opening minutes and the Drew University women's soccer team tied King's College 1-1 on the first day of the Drew Fall Festival on Saturday in Ranger Stadium.

O'Murchu converted a give-and-go with senior Alexa Krause in the fifth minute. O'Murchu sent a pass to the left side of the box, drawing King's' goalie to the left post. Krause crossed a pass back to O'Murchu, who one-timed in a sliding shot for her second career goal.

The Rangers (1-1-1) outshot the Monarchs 5-2 in the opening half and 11-6 for the game, but were held to one shot on goal the rest of the way following O'Murchu's tally. In the meantime, King's scored in the 52nd minute, when Leah Sankey deflected in a clearing pass.

The final 37 minutes were a defensive battle, as neither side was able to place a shot on frame down the stretch.

Sophomore Sarah Crowley made two saves for the Rangers, as did Ashly Crawford for the Monarchs (1-1-2).

In the opening game of the day, New Paltz defeated Stockton 2-0.

The Fall Festival concludes on Sunday, with King's facing Stockton at 1:30 p.m. and the Rangers taking on New Paltz at 4 p.m.
