NEW YORK – The Drew University women's indoor track & field team registered several outstanding performances at the Ramapo Season Opener on Friday at The Armory in New York City.
Competing for the first time since Dec. 13, the Rangers set or tied four school records while also placing three athletes in the top-five at a meet that consisted heavily of Division I and II competition.
Sophomore
Sage Hendershot won the long jump for the second time in three meets this season, soaring 5.66 meters (18-7) to tie her own program record set at the team's last meet. Competing in a field of 29, she finished nearly seven inches ahead of her nearest competitor – D'Jior Delisser of Division II New Haven.
Hendershot also established a program record in the 200-meter dash, finishing ninth out of 71 competitors with a time of 26.53 seconds.
Junior
Emily Camlet turned in another stellar performance as well, finishing as the runner-up and the top collegiate finisher in a field of 50 in the 400-meter dash. She lowered her own school record to 57.88 seconds – a mark that vaults her to No. 12 on the current Division III leaderboard – and finished just 0.29 seconds behind an open competitor. Camlet beat out her nearest collegiate competitor - Oghenenyerovwo Omokeni of
Division I Stony Brook – by nearly a full second.
Also coming away with a team record for the Rangers, who are competing in their second year of varsity competition, was sophomore
Lauryn Brown, who placed fifth in a field of 17 in the triple jump. With a mark of 11.22 meters (36-9 3/4), she was also the top Division III finisher. Brown also placed 15th in the long jump with a lead of 4.75 meters (15-7).
Several of Drew's field athletes will compete at the Collegeville Classic, hosted by Ursinus College, on Sunday starting at 9:15 a.m.
