Explosive First Half Carries Rangers at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University men's basketball team raced to a 62-33 halftime lead and rolled to a 98-69 Landmark Conference victory at Goucher College Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rangers (14-3, 10-0 LC) won their sixth game in a row while maintaining their perch atop the Landmark Conference standings.
 
For the third game in a row, the Rangers had three players score in double figures. Sophomore Matthew Zenker netted a career-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench while junior forward Kevin Cronin tied a career-best with 14 points. He shot 6-for-7 and also grabbed seven rebounds.
 
Senior guard Josh Kline added 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals for the Rangers while junior forward David Musial and senior guard Malcolm Newman scored 11 points each. Sophomore guard Eli Yusavage contributed 10 points.
 
Jayden Saunders scored 15 points to lead the Gophers (4-13, 3-7 LC).
 
Drew trailed just once on the day – when Goucher hit a pair of free throws to go up 5-3. The Rangers led just 21-17 with 12:34 left in the opening half but erupted with a 41-16 run to end the half. Zenker pumped in 14 of his points during the stretch, including both of his 3-pointers and a slam dunk, while Kline (9), Cronin (7), and Yusavage (7) contributed as well.
 
Newman scored seven of the team's first 13 points of the second half as Drew saw its lead swell to 36 (75-39) with 15:36 remaining. The Rangers led by at least 28 the rest of the way.
 
Drew picks up its schedule on Wednesday, when it visits the University of Scranton in another Landmark Conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
