Men’s Basketball Downs Scranton for Seventh Straight Win

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore forward Matthew Zenker netted a career-high 27 points and the Drew University men's basketball team won its seventh game in a row with a 95-67 Landmark Conference victory at the University of Scranton Wednesday evening.

The Rangers (15-3, 11-0 LC) equaled their longest winning streak of the season while maintaining their hold on first place in the Landmark standings.

It was the second straight 20-point game for Zenker, who shot 11-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-8 from 3-point territory. He also scored a then-career-high 22 points in the team's 98-69 victory at Goucher this past Saturday.

Senior forward Peso Crump added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting while dishing out five assists for the Rangers, who shot a season-high from the field (57.1%) and from 3-point range (48.4%, 15-for-31).

Senior guard Josh Kline contributed 13 points, four assists, and three steals while graduate guard James Anderson tossed in 10 points. Senior guard Malcolm Newman posted nine points and four steals, and junior forward David Musial distributed six assists for Drew, which swept its season series with Scranton for the second year in a row.

Sammy Tornabene paced the Royals (9-9, 4-7 LC) with 17 points.

The Rangers were held to three points over the opening five minutes and it was a 20-20 game with 8:19 on the first-half clock. But Drew closed the half on a 20-6 burst, capped by six straight points from Crump to assume a 49-33 lead at the break. Drew shot a blistering 70.0% (13-for-20) in the opening period.

Drew continued to pull away early in the second half and opened with a 25-11 surge to open up a 30-point game (74-44) with 13:08 remaining. The Royals answered with an 11-2 run to cut the gap to 21, but that's as close as they would get.

The Rangers return home on Saturday, when they take on Lycoming College at 4 p.m. in another Landmark Conference tilt on Senior Day.
