Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Hoops Wins Eighth Straight, Moves to 12-0 in Landmark With Senior Day Win

MADISON, N.J. – Senior guard Malcolm Newman scored a season-high 21 points and the Drew University men's basketball team cruised to a 93-62 Landmark Conference victory over Lycoming College in a Landmark Conference tilt Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in Baldwin Gym.

With the win, the Rangers (16-3, 12-0 LC) pushed their winning streak to eight – the third-longest in team history – and continued their undefeated start in Landmark Conference play. They also stayed perfect at home (8-0) this season.

The Rangers, who entered the game ranked third in Division III in 3-pointers made per game (12.3), drained 16 triples – one shy of their season-high.

Drew's five seniors – Peso Crump, Pat Higgins, Josh Kline, Aidan Lazenby, and Newman – were honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the game. Crump finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high seven assists while Kline posted 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Lazenby made his first career start and scored on a long jumper while Newman shot 4-for-8 from 3-point range and also swiped three steals.

Sophomore forward Matthew Zenker added 17 points – including nine in a row in a key stretch to end the first half – and five rebounds for the Rangers while graduate guard James Anderson contributed 10 points and five boards. Sophomore guard Eli Yusavage pitched in with nine points.

Hayden Pardoe led the Warriors (2-17, 1-11 LC) with 18 points.

Though the Rangers trailed for only 3:26, it was a close game for the majority of the first half. Drew led just 36-34 with 1:17 left in the opening period before Zenker heated up to give his team an 11-point halftime lead. He started the surge with a pair of free throws before finishing off a fastbreak feed from Kline. He followed up with a 3-pointer, then hauled in a baseball pass from Kline and dropped in another layup just before the buzzer.

Lycoming pulled to within singles digits on a dunk from Pardoe that made it 56-48 with 15:48 remaining. But that's as close as it would get, and the Rangers used an 13-2 run to break the game open, as a 12-point lead ballooned into a 77-54 advantage with 7:52 remaining. Crump highlighted the stretch with a thunderous dunk – his second of the game – off a feed from junior forward David Musial.

Drew extended its lead to 30 (85-55) on a lay-up from junior forward Kevin Cronin with 4:03 left and Lycoming was unable to get closer than 29 the rest of the way.

The Rangers return home on Wednesday, when they host Moravian University at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference outing.
