Rangers Down Immaculata in High-Scoring Affair

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Ryan Fischer scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute and the Drew University men's soccer team defeated Immaculata University 4-3 in an action-packed non-conference outing Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (6-2-1) never trailed after senior James Cahill scored in the 23rd minute, although Immaculata (1-8) tied it three times. Freshman Matt Munoz and junior Owen Edwards added their first collegiate goals while senior Jonathan Gutierrez handed out a pair of assists.

Drew outshot the Mighty Macs 17-4 and held a 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In the second-ever meeting between the two sides, seven different players scored a goal.

Cahill put the Rangers on the scoreboard when he took a cross from Munoz and drilled in a long shot inside the right post for his second goal of the season.

Immaculata (1-8) tied it on a penalty kick in the 31st minute, but 37 seconds later Munoz put Drew back on top, finishing off a cross from Gutierrez in front of the net.

The Mighty Macs evened the score again in the 36th minute and it was a 2-2 game at the intermission.

Edwards got into the act in the 67th minute, when he took a perfect pass from Gutierrez inside the 18 and left-footed a shot into the lower-left corner to make it a 3-2 game.

Immaculata tied it for the last time on a goal in the 85th minute. But the Rangers had the answer once again.

Junior Andrew Dunne initiated Drew's go-ahead tally, sending in a corner kick from the right side. The ball found its way to Cahill, whose header was knocked down by a defender. The ball rolled out to Fischer, who one-timed it in for his first goal of the season and his first career game-winner.

Senior Pim van Hilten started in goal for the Rangers and went the distance to earn his second career win.

The Rangers return to action on Saturday, when it visits Lycoming College at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
