MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team swept a non-conference match versus Centenary (N.J.) University on Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym, winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-15.
Senior
Inaya Stanford posted nine kills and made just one error on 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage for the Rangers, who posted their fourth sweep of the season. Freshman
Coco Otto registered eight kills and four aces while sophomore
Aidyn Stone notched 12 digs and four aces. Junior
Alyssa Rachwal distributed 25 assists.
In the first-ever meeting between the two sides, the Rangers took control of the opening set with a 9-1 run that included two kills from sophomore
Melissa Zack as the Rangers jumped to a 10-4 lead. The Cyclones answered with a 5-0 spurt, but were unable to draw even and Drew gradually pulled away over the rest of the set.
The Rangers broke out to a 15-5 lead in the second set, with five different players throwing down a kill over the set. Drew extended its lead to 19-8 and 20-9 before Centenary used a late run to narrow the gap.
The final set was a back-and-forth affair early, and the Rangers led just 9-7 before putting the match away with a decisive 12-1 outburst. Stone served on the last seven points of the run and served up three of her aces during the stretch.
Drew continues its four-match homestand on Friday, when it takes on Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair on Senior Night.
