Higgins’ Goal Hands Rangers Key Landmark Win Over Juniata

MADISON, N.J. – Freshman Gretchen Higgins scored in the 82nd minute and the Drew University women's soccer team earned a big 1-0 Landmark Conference Victory over Juniata College on Senior Day in Ranger Stadium Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Rangers (6-7-3, 3-4-1 LC) moved into sixth place in the Landmark Conference standings with just one game left in the regular season. The top-six teams in the conference standings qualify for the Landmark's championship tournament.

Prior to the start of the match, Drew's five seniors – Aimee Barsa, Molly Kuhn, Kayla Kuncken, Kati Matteson, and Francesca Veltri – were recognized in a brief ceremony.

The Rangers outshot the Eagles 15-7 and held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Junior Sarah Crowley made a pair of saves as Drew recorded its second consecutive clean sheet in Landmark Conference play following a 0-0 tie versus Elizabethtown College this past Tuesday.

With just over eight minutes to play, sophomore Kristina Lowe fired a low-lining shot that was kicked out by Juniata goalie Emma Stiller. Lowe tracked down the loose ball on the right side and sent a cross past a diving Stiller to Higgins, who one-timed it off the inside of the crossbar and into the net. It was her second goal of the season and her first since the team's season opener, when she scored what held up as the game-winner in a 3-0 victory at Manhattanville.

Crowley made her final stop on a long-range blast in the 85th minute to ice it for the Rangers.

Drew closed out the regular season on Tuesday, when it visits the University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
