Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women’s Volleyball Storms Back to Beat Susquehanna

MADISON, N.J. – For the second match in a row, the Drew University women's volleyball came team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, but this time the Rangers came out on top with a 3-2 victory over Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference tilt Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

Susquehanna (8-18, 4-3 LC) opened with 25-20, 25-22 victories before Drew bounced back to win 25-18, 25-23, and 15-12 for the reverse sweep.

The Rangers also forced a fifth set versus Elizabethtown College in an eventual 3-2 Etown victory Friday evening.

Drew's win over Susquehanna was the opener of a tri-match and marked the squad's first-ever victory over the River Hawks, who had won the first four meetings since Drew became a varsity program in 2021.

The Rangers closed the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) loss to Lancaster Bible College (15-9) in a non-conference match.

With her 27th and final assist versus Susquehanna, junior Alyssa Rachwal reached a milestone, becoming the first Ranger in the five-year history of the program to hand out 2,000 career assists. She also picked up 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Lindsey Millis, freshman Coco Otto, and freshman Jasmine Brewer also turned in big performances versus the River Hawks. Millis posted 14 kills and 14 digs while Otto racked up 13 kills, 22 digs, and five service aces. Brewer tallied a season-high 13 kills and posted an identical attack line as Otto, as the pair each made just four errors on 30 attempts for a .300 hitting percentage.

Freshman Cristina Coombs contributed 20 assists versus Susquehanna while sophomore Aidyn Stone scooped 19 digs and served up five aces.

With the third set tied 18-18, Otto took over the match, delivering all five of her aces to power a 7-0 run to end the set and propel the Rangers to their comeback.

Drew was in command from the start in the fourth set, opening on a 9-2 run. The River Hawks came all the way back to tie it at 23-23, but the Rangers scored the last two points, including a set-clinching kill from Millis.

The fifth set was close early on, and Susquehanna led 8-6 before Drew took control with a 4-1 surge that included kill and an ace from Millis and a kill from senior Abigail Pereira.  The Hawks came back to tie the match twice, the last coming at 11-11, before the Rangers ended the match on a 4-1 run. Millis threw down two kills during Drew's final spurt, including the match-clinching point.

Against Lancaster Bible, Brewer paced the Rangers with eight kills while junior Meghan Pullen added a season-high seven kills. Rachwal handed out another 22 assists while Stone and Otto contributed 15 and 12 digs, respectively.

Drew picks up its schedule on Friday, when it visits Moravian University in another Landmark Conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
