DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – The Drew University men's golf team placed eighth out of 21 teams at the highly-competitive West Pines Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the West Pines Golf Club.
The Rangers shot an 878 (+26) for the 54-hole event, which featured six teams that competed in last year's NCAA Division III Championships.
Two rounds were held on Monday, and after opening with a 296, the Rangers closed the day with an incredible even-par 284, tying the fourth-best round relative to par in team history. Drew wrapped up with a 298 on Tuesday.
Leading the way for Drew was sophomore
Sam Dolan, who tied for 13th in the field of 108. He shot a 3-over-par 216 (71-73-72) and finished with seven birdies, including three in both the first and last rounds.
Junior
Avery Cohen placed second among the Rangers, tying for 16th with a 217 (73-71-73). He racked up nine birdies – including four in the opening round – and notched an eagle on the par-4 ninth hole on Tuesday.
Senior
Elliot Parker was three strokes back for Drew, tying for 29th with a 220 (75-68-77). He shot the best round of the tournament when he fired a 3-under 68 to close out the day on Monday and finished the event with eight birdies and an eagle on the par-5 17th hole on Tuesday.
Rounding out the team score was senior
Shiv Bhaskar, who tied for 59th with a 227 (79-72-76). He recorded five birdies, including three in his middle round. Junior
Thomas Hurley also competed and tied for 84th with a 232 (77-74-81). He birdied five holes, including three in the opening round.
Rhodes College captured the team title while Mary Hardin-Baylor's Colton O'Dell claimed medalist honors with a 206 (70-65-71).
The Rangers compete in their next-to-last event of the fall Oct. 19-20 at The Melee, held at Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Va.
