MADISON, N.J. – Senior
Marissa Guajardo broke the Drew University women's volleyball record for career blocks in a 3-0 non-conference loss to Stockton University Thursday evening in Baldwin Gym.
With a block assist in the second set, Guajardo pushed her career total to 146 – one more than Melina Christodoulou C'24 accumulated from 2021-22.
The Ospreys won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-12, 25-18.
Sophomore
Lindsey Millis paced the Rangers with eight kills, five digs, and a pair of service aces while freshman
Cristina Coombs distributed 10 assists. Junior
Alyssa Rachwal added eight assists.
The Rangers trailed 13-9 in the opening set but reeled off a 9-0 run – with freshman
Coco Otto serving on the final eight points – to go up 18-13. A kill from senior
Inaya Stanford put Drew up 19-14, but that's when Stockton used a 9-0 run of its own to go up 23-19. The Rangers responded with a 3-0 spurt before the Ospreys scored the final two points to clinch the set.
Stockton never trailed in the second set after scoring the first five points. In the final set, Drew opened on a 9-6, which included two kills and an ace from Millis, but the Ospreys answered with a 5-0 run and never trailed again. The Rangers trailed just 19-16 after Millis' final kill before Stockton closed on a 6-2 run.
Drew continues its season on Tuesday, when it visits the University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
