STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Drew University women's track & field team closed out the opening semester with several impressive performances on Friday at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College and held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in a meet that featured a mix of Division I, II, and III competition.
In the 4x200-meter relay, the Rangers lowered the school record by nearly four seconds, as the foursome of junior
Sage Hendershot, sophomore
Lauryn Brown, freshman
Laiana Anderson, and senior
Emily Camlet raced to a time of 1 minute, 47.27 seconds. They finished third in their heat and 12th overall in the field of 21 while beating out Ramapo and Rutgers-Camden, the only other two Division III schools in the event.
Senior
Lauren Rizzolo also recorded an outstanding showing, placing 10th among 50 competitors in the weight throw. With a toss of 13.45 meters (44-2), she bettered her own school record for the second time in as many meets and was the top Division III finisher.
Brown also recorded a pair of strong finishes in the jumps. She placed 13th in a field of 30 in the triple jump with a mark of 10.58 meters (34-8 1/2), and she also took 19th out of 44 competitors in the long jump with a leap of 4.89 meters (16- 1/2).
Sophomore
Isabella Fortunato added a school record in the 600-meter dash, clocking a time of 1:48.54 to finish 23rd out of 33 competitors.
Drew continues its indoor season on Friday, Jan. 9, when it returns to Ocean Breeze for the Spartan Invitational, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.
