All-Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Team
TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team tied a program record with nine student-athletes named to the All-Landmark Conference Team following another stellar showing at the Landmark Conference Championships this past weekend at the Loyola University.
In addition, sophomore
Nicholas Heinio-Widell was named the Men's Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season while freshman
Thiago Silva was selected as the Men's Rookie of the Year.
First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to everyone who finishes first at the Landmark Championships while second-place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition. Honorable mention is given to third-place finishers.
Drew also placed nine athletes on the 2022 All-Landmark Conference Team. This year, the Rangers scored 681 points and placed third among 10 teams. The squad also won 13 events - six more than any other team - and swept all five relays for the second year in a row.
Heinio-Widell won all seven events he competed in (three individual, four relay), broke three Landmark Conference Championship and meet records, reset four school records, and achieved three NCAA B cuts. He becomes the first Ranger and only the third athlete from any school to repeat as Landmark Conference Men's Swimmer of the Year.
Heinio-Widell broke Landmark Conference and meet records in the 100-butterfly (48.15), 100-freestyle (45.46), and the 200-medley relay (1:30.90). He also established school records in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, 200-IM (1:50.03), and 200-medley relay and registered B cuts in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, and 200-IM.
