Balanced Offense, Stingy Defense Lift Men’s Lax Over Marywood

MADISON, N.J. – Seven different Rangers scored a goal and the Drew University men's lacrosse team shut out Marywood University in three quarters to earn an 11-3 victory in a non-conference tilt in Ranger Stadium on Saturday.

Drew ended the game on a 7-0 run that spanned the final three quarters.

The game was interrupted by a power outage that stopped play temporarily early in the second quarter.

Senior Mike DeMayo led the Rangers (1-1) with three goals and two assists while junior Riley Zeer also scored three times. Sophomore Joe Barnish made 15 saves for Drew, and classmate Jake Rainero won 11-of-14 faceoffs.

Drew led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter following goals from senior Luke Bruther and fifth-year Tommy Larmore.

The Rangers went on to pull away over the middle two quarters, tossing in four goals in each period. After a Marywood goal, DeMayo and Zeer struck once apiece to make it a 4-1 game with 10:08 on the first-half clock.

Marywood scored its final two goals two minutes apart midway through the second quarter to make it 4-3. The Rangers went on to blank the Pacers over the final 36 minutes.

Freshman Joseph Carabetta scored his first collegiate goal with 3:59 showing before junior Colin Diodato struck to make it a 6-3 game at the half.

DeMayo buried a man-up tally 39 seconds into the second half before senior Joey Larmore delivered just over a minute later, stretching Drew's advantage to 8-3.

Joey Larmore and Zeer scored once apiece before DeMayo struck again to put the Rangers up 10-3 heading the final stanza, when Zeer finished off his hat trick.

Drew returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Gwynedd Mercy University at 4 p.m. in an on-conference affair.
