INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has released its field of individual qualifiers for the Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, and for the first time in his career, Drew University sophomore Nicholas Heinio-Widell has made the cut.

Heinio-Widell qualified for the national championships with a time of 48.15 in the 100-butterfly and will enter the meet as the No. 16 seed in the event.

The competition will be held March 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Heinio-Widell was also invited to compete in the 100-freestyle and the 200-IM after swimming additional NCAA B cuts in both events. He will enter the meet seeded 18th in the 100-free (45.46) and 32nd in the 200-IM (1:50.03).

Heinio-Widell becomes Drew's second NCAA qualifier in men's swimming & diving, as former teammate Hayden Koh C'24 competed at the 2023 championships. He is Drew's fourth national qualifier overall, as Mal Vishwanath C'20 and Lauren Kenworthy C'99 represented the Ranger women's team on the national stage. Vishwanath swam at the 2018 championships while Kenworthy qualified every year from 1996-99.

The top-16 finishers in every event are named All-Americans, with the top-eight receiving first-team status and the ninth through 16th finishers receiving honorable mention.

Heinio-Widell is coming off another outstanding performance at the Landmark Conference Championships earlier this month, earning the conference's Swimmer of the Year award for the second year in a row. He won all seven events he competed in (three individual, four relay), broke three Landmark Conference Championship and meet records, reset four school records, and achieved three NCAA B cuts. He broke Landmark Conference and meet records in the 100-butterfly (48.15), 100-freestyle (45.46), and the 200-medley relay (1:30.90) and school records in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, 200-IM (1:50.03), and 200-medley relay. He also registered B cuts in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, and 200-IM.

For his career, Heinio-Widell has won 14 Landmark Conference titles, owns 10 school records, and has set five Landmark Conference records.
