MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Drew University women's track & field team began its outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge.
Nine Rangers took on a competitive field that consisted primarily of Division I and Division III schools.
On the track, junior
Kate Rice placed 16th among 40 competitors in the 5,000-meter run, clocking a time of 19:02.64. She was also 19th in the 1,500 (5:03.13).
Freshman
April Kusnier also turned in a strong performance on the track, placing second in a field of 38 in the "open" 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:08.65.
In the field events, sophomore
Lauryn Brown broke the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 10.95 meters (35-11 1/4) while placing 23rd. In addition, classmate
Kate Rizzolo lowered her own team record in the hammer with a toss of 33.61 meters (110-3).
The Rangers are back in action on March 28-29 at the Ramapo Invitational.
