WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drew University men's golf team opened the spring season with a bang, beating out 10 teams to win The Ruckus on Saturday and Sunday at Williamsburg National Golf Club.

The Rangers fired a 4-over-par 580 (287-293) for the 36-hole event, marking the second-best showing in team history behind only the 2-over 574 shot at the Arcadia University Golden Oaks Shootout this past September. In addition, the team's 287 was the third-best 18-hole round ever at Drew.

The Rangers won by seven strokes over Bowdoin while York (Pa.) (588), Hartford (591), and Bridgewater (Va.) (594) rounded out the top-five.

Junior Elliot Parker led the way individually for Drew, firing a 142 (70-72) to finish in a three-way tie for first along with Cameron Bozyk of Adrian and Jacob Fripp of York. Fripp garnered medalist honors by card comparison of the second-round scores after posting a 70. Parker shot nine birdies and one eagle for the tournament.

Placing second for the Rangers was sophomore Avery Cohen, who tied for sixth in the field of 62 golfers, shooting 145 (69-76). He shot eight birdies and one eagle.

Rounding out the team scoring were sophomore Eric Castner, who tied for 10th with a 146 (73-73), and freshman Brian Cotter who placed 14th with a 147 (75-72). Castner, who dropped four strokes from his pervious collegiate-best for 36 holes, shot six birdies. Cotter notched seven birdies and lowered his 36-hole best by six strokes.

Junior Shiv Bhaskar also competed and tied for 34th with a 158 (75-83) while shooting five birdies.

The Rangers continue their season on March 28-29 at the DeSales Invitational, held at Olde Homestead Golf Club in New Tripoli, Pa.
