ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College outscored the Rangers 7-2 in the first quarter and the Blue Jays earned a 16-6 victory in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Senior
Mike DeMayo posted two goals and two assists for Drew (6-5, 5-0 LC) while junior
Riley Zeer contributed one goal and two assists. Sophomore
Jake Rainero won 16-of-23 faceoffs while picking up 12 ground balls, and sophomore
Joe Barnish collected 14 saves.
Tristan Coleman led the conference-leading Blue Jays (7-5, 5-0 LC) with five goals and three assists.
Elizabethtown held just a 40-35 advantage in shots, but Brayden Franey made 16 saves for the Rangers.
The Blue Jays scored the game's first two goals before senior
Luke Bruther struck for Drew to make it 2-1 with 11:24 on the clock. Etown answered with a key 4-0 run to open up a 6-1 advantage. The two sides traded goals at the end of the period, with Zeer connecting for Drew with 29 seconds left.
DeMayo scored with 10:05 remaining in the first half to make it 8-3, but the Blue Jays scored the last two goals of the half to assume a 10-3 lead at the intermission.
The Rangers pulled to within 11-5 with 10:35 left in the third quarter following goals from DeMayo and junior
Colin Diodato. But Etown broke it open with a 5-0 run spanning the final two quarters, pushing its advantage to 16-5. Fifth-year
Matt Giordano scored the final goal of the game for Drew.
Next up for the Rangers is another Landmark Conference tilt at the University of Scranton on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m.
