CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Junior
Elliot Parker tied for second place in a competitive field of 120 and the Drew University men's golf team placed eighth out 24 teams at the three-day Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Friday through Sunday.
Competing in a 54-hole event for the fourth time in team history, the Rangers shot a school-record 887 (289-304-294).
Sandhills Community College and Shenandoah tied for first place, with each shooting an 873. The top-10 was rounded out by Guilford (875), Oglethorpe (879), Franklin & Marshall (882), Averett (885), Swarthmore (886), Drew, Penn State Altoona (888), and Roanoke (893).
Parker fired a 214 (69-72-73), tying Shenandoah's Ben Gray for second and placing just two strikes behind Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum for the title. He finished with 10 birdies for the tournament, including six in the first round and three on the final day. Parker has now placed first or second in each of his three events this spring.
Sophomore
Avery Cohen was Drew's second finisher, tying nine other golfers for 33rd place. He shot 223 (75-75-73) and carded six birdies, including three on Sunday.
Junior
Liam Larkin was one stroke back for the Rangers, finishing in a six-way tie for 43rd place with a 224 (73-77-74). He birdied nine holes on the day, including a four on Friday, when he carded a season-low score for the round.
Sophomore
Eric Castner rounded out the team scoring for the Rangers, shooting a 228 (72-80-76) to finish in a tie for 62nd. He posted six birdies, including four in the opening round in which he tied his collegiate-low score.
Also competing for the Rangers was freshman
Brian Cotter, who tied for 95th with a 237 (82-81-74). Cotter birdied three holes, including three on Sunday.
The Rangers continue their season on Monday, when the "B" team competes at the Moselem Cup, held at Moselem Spring Golf Club in Fleetwood, Pa.
