CHESTER, Pa. – Six members of the Drew University women's and men's track & field team competed at the Widener University Final Qualifier on Monday, producing a number of impressive performances.
Five athletes were in action on the women's side, and sophomore
Lauryn Brown turning in a pair of top-11 finishes. She placed third among 10 competitors in the triple jump with a mark of 11.48 meters, or 37 feet, 8 inches – less than three inches shy of her own school record. Brown also placed 11th among 20 athletes in the long jump with a leap of 5.20 meters (17- 3/4).
Sophomore
Sage Hendershot also competed in the jumps and placed 10th in the long jump, clearing 5.26 meters (17-3 1/4). Hendershot is currently tied for 10th in Division III in the event with her school and Landmark Conference record of 5.94 meters (19-6).
Junior
Emily Camlet added a fourth-place showing while competing in a field of 18 in the 400-meter dash. She was clocked a time of 55.79, just 0.18 seconds off her own school and Landmark Conference record. Camlet, who currently ranks 26th in Division III in the event, was the second collegiate finisher.
Junior
Dejanayha Hill and sophomore
Sarah Hattan were also in action for the women's team. Hill placed 18th in the hammer with a personal-record (PR) throw of 36.48 meters (119-8) while Hattan placed 40th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:09.89, just over a second shy of her PR.
Sophomore
Zach Mogambi competed for the men's team and placed 12th in the discus with a mark of 41.54 meters (136-3). Mogambi is currently ranked 28th in Division III in the event with his school- and Landmark Conference-record throw of 50.26 meters (164-11).
Several of Drew's athletes will now hope for possible selections to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, which will be held May 22-24 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The field will be announced on Friday in an announcement on NCAA.com.
