PENFIELD, N.Y. – The Drew University men's golf team completed its opening round at the NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday at the Midvale Country Club.

The Rangers opened with a 317 (+29) and are currently tied for 38th place.

Drew was competing at the prestigious event as a team for the first time since the Rangers made their NCAA Championship debut in 2022.

Junior Elliot Parker led the Rangers with a 75 (+3), which places him in a tie with 21 other golfers for 53rd place in the field of 225 golfers. He birdied three holes for the day and shot a 1-under-par 35 on his second 9. Parker is making his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III Championships after qualifying as an individual last season.

Drew's second finisher was sophomore Eric Castner, who carded a 79 and is tied with 16 others for 135th place. On his second 9, he parred six holes and birdied another en route to a 37.

Completing the team score for the Rangers were sophomore Thomas Hurley, who opened with an 81 to place him in a 12-way tie for 167th, and junior Liam Larkin, who posted an 82 and is in a 15-way tie for 179th. Sophomore Avery Cohen is also in action, and he opened with an 85 to place him in a four-way tie for 208th.

The four-day, 72-hole event continues on Wednesday, and the Rangers will switch courses and compete at Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, N.Y. Due to a rainy forecast, the event will now have a shotgun start at approximately 8 a.m.

Following Wednesday's round, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.
