All-Landmark Conference Women's Golf Team
TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University women's golf team placed a program-record five student-athletes on the All-Landmark Conference Team by virtue of their performance at the Landmark Conference Championships on April 26-27.
All five Rangers who competed at the championship captured all-conference recognition after helping the squad to an incredibly close runner-up finish. Drew finished the 36-hole tournament tied for first place with Catholic University, as each side shot a 649. However, the Cardinals captured the title on a tiebreaking procedure of comparing scores of each team's No. 5 golfers in the second round.
Freshman
Josephine Nguyen and junior
Roxy Riles each captured a spot on the All-Landmark Conference First Team while freshman
Cassie Sengul captured second-team recognition. In addition, junior
Emily Rhode and freshman
Isabella Borte earned honorable mention status. The top-six finishers in the field earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors while the seventh through 12th-place individuals are named to the second team. The 13th- through 15-place finishers receive honorable mention.
In addition, Nguyen was honored as the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year after capturing medalist honors and finishing as the top freshman in the field. She carded a 6-over-par 150 (75-75) to win the title by six strokes, becoming the fourth Landmark Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in women's golf and the first to win both awards since
Kayla Diaz C'23 also captured both in 2022.
For the season, Nguyen averaged a team-leading average of 76.3 over 15 rounds, including a season-low 68 in the second round of The Melee on Oct. 21. She finished the season placing in the top-five in all 10 of her 10 events, including five individual victories. Nguyen closed the season on an incredible tear in which claimed medalist honors in her last four events, winning Catholic University's Cardinal Spring Classic (148), the Conquer the Island tournament (78), a match versus Scranton (79), and the Landmark Conference Championship. In addition, she won the Melee with a 143 (75-68), where she posted the second-lowest scores for 18 and 36 holes in team history.
Riles garnered First Team All-Landmark Conference honors for the third year in a row, becoming just the second player in team history to achieve the feat. She placed fourth at the conference championship with a 161 (80-81), tying her top career finish at the event after taking fourth a year ago as well. For the season, she posted the team's second-best average, posting an 80.7. She placed among the top-10 in nine of her 10 events and claimed medalist honors at the Drew Birdie Bash on Oct. 2 with a 76. Riles also claimed runner-up honors at Conquer the Island with an 81, and she tied for second at the season-opening Battle at Berkleigh on Sept. 26 with a 76.
Sengul placed eighth at the conference championship, shooting a 166 (83-83), her season-best score for 36 holes. During the season, she averaged an 84.1 over 13 rounds to place third among the Rangers. Sengul recorded a season-low round of 80 on two occasions and placed among the top-10 in six of her eight events, including a third-place finish at the Drew Birdie Bash. In addition, she
Rhode garnered all-conference honors for the first time in her career after placing 14th at the Landmark Conference Championship with a 175 (81-94), a season-best score for 36 holes. In addition, her opening-round score was a career-low by four strokes. On the season, she posted a scoring average of 90.9 over 11 rounds, and she placed in the top-10 in five of her eight events.
Borte landed all-conference recognition after placing 15th at the Landmark Conference Championship with a 181 (90-91). She averaged an 88.3 over 15 rounds on the season to finish fourth on the team. She placed among the top-10 in six of her 10 events, including four top-five finishes. Borte shot a season-low 82 on Oct. 21 in the second round of The Melee, and she placed third at Conquer the Island with an 87.
As a team, the Rangers won five of their 10 events and averaged a 329.3 per round – a team record by over 16 strokes.
