PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Drew University women's soccer team broke open a scoreless match with three goals in the final 16 minutes and the Rangers topped Manhattanville University 3-0 in their season opener Friday evening.
Three different players scored a goal for the Rangers, starting with a pair of tallies 51 seconds apart.
Freshman
Gretchen Higgins broke the ice, finishing off a pass from senior
Aimee Barsa in the 75th minute. First-year
Olivia Klein followed up with a goal off an assist from senior
Molly Kuhn.
Sophomore transfer
Megan Fedish capped the scoring in the 88th minute, when she converted a dish from junior transfer
Caia Carlesimo.
Drew outshot the Valiants 17-3. Sophomore Dani Ianelli started and made two saves in the first half before classmate
Hayden Scotti played the second period.
Macey Girard collected seven saves for Manhattanville.
The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit Stockton University at 6 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
