MADISON, N.J. – Junior
Kevin Martinez and senior
James Cahill scored one goal apiece and sophomore
Cameron Zutic made five saves, leading the Drew University men's soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference victory over DeSales University in a non-conference tilt Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
It was the second consecutive shutout for the Rangers (5-1-1), who tied NYU 0-0 this past Saturday.
Drew outshot the Bulldogs 21-10.
Martinez provided the Rangers with all of the offense they would need when he struck in the 13th minute. Junior
Jonathan Gutierrez set up the goal with a blast that was knocked down by the DeSales keeper, and Martinez rebounded a shot inside the far post for his first goal of the season.
The Rangers held a 9-6 edge in shots during the first half when Zutic, making his first career start, registered three of his saves.
Cahill provided an insurance tally in the 57th minute. From the right side of the field, junior
Ignacio Martinez lofted a free kick into the box, where Cahill bounced a shot just inside the right post for his first tally of the year.
Drew outshot DeSales 12-4 in the second period, when Zutic stopped two more shots to earn his first career shutout.
The Rangers play their Landmark Conference opener on Saturday, when they host Goucher College at 3:30 p.m.
