MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's basketball team shot 30-for-36 at the foul line and the Drew University men's basketball team quelled a late rally from Susquehanna University en route to a 97-88 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.
Drew's 30 free throws made were the fourth-most in team history and the most since they went 31-for-35 at the line in an overtime loss to TCNJ early last season.
Senior forward
David Musial led the Rangers (12-3, 6-2 LC) with a season-high 22 points and six rebounds while shooting 7-for-8 at the foul line. Junior guard
Andre De Los Reyes added 20 points and four assists while shooting 9-for-10 at the charity stripe, and senior forward
Kevin Cornin contributed 14 points. Sophomore forward
Ben Manns posted 10 points and eight rebounds.
Mikey Cumbo scored 19 points to lead the River Hawks (8-7, 4-4 LC) while Jackson Van Wagener posted 18 points and six assists.
The Rangers led for all but 1:07 during the game and outscored Susquehanna 9-2 to start the game. The Hawks took their only lead of the day when they went up 13-12 with 12:38 left in the opening half, only to see Drew push its advantage back up to nine on a pair of occasions, the last coming with 5:35 remaining. Susquehanna tied the game at 39-all but the Rangers went back in front for good and entered the half leading 47-42.
The Rangers led by 10 with just under nine minutes left in the game before Susquehanna pulled to within two with 5:17 to go. But Drew came up big at the foul line the rest of the way, shooting 13-for-16 to steal the win.
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it travels to Moravian University for a Landmark Conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
