Camlet Leads Women’s Track & Field at Ocean Breeze

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Senior Emily Camlet captured one event and placed second in another to lead the Drew University women's indoor track & field team at the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday.
 
The meet featured Division I, II, and III competition along with unattached athletes.
 
Camlet raced to victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.25 seconds, beating out 43 other competitors and finishing by 0.49 seconds ahead of the nearest finisher. Ranked seventh in Division III in the event entering the day, she also finished 1.25 seconds ahead of the nearest collegiate competitor and nearly five seconds in front of the second Division III finisher.
 
In the 200-meter dash, Camlet placed second in a field of 67 while lowering her own school record with a time of 25.46, a time that would place her 14th in Division III entering the day. She placed just 0.05 seconds behind event winner Christine Manneh of Wagner College and crossed the line almost a second ahead of the nearest Division III competitor.
 
Sophomore Lauryn Brown also registered a pair of strong performances and was the top Division III finisher in both of her events. She took second out of 30 competitors in the long jump with a leap of 5.15 meters (16-10 3/4), and she also came in fourth in a field of 32 in the triple jump with a mark of 10.64 meters (34-11).
 
Senior Lauren Rizzolo also broke the top-eight for the Rangers, placing seventh among 30 competitors in the weight throw with a toss of 12.86 meters (42-2). She was also 16th in a field of 40 in the shot put (9.68m/31-9). Also in the throws, senior Dejanayha Hill took 15th in the weight throw (10.53m/34-7).
 
Sophomore April Kusnier added a ninth-place finish among 31 competitors in the mile with a time of 5:27.47.
 
Drew picks up its schedule next Friday at Ramapo College Season Opener, held at the Armory in New York City.
