Late Comeback Falls Just Short for Women’s Volleyball in Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team put together a stunning rally late in the fourth set, but Moravian University held off the surge to edge the Rangers 3-1 in the Landmark Conference for both teams in front of a raucous crowd Friday evening in Baldwin Gym.

The Greyhounds (10-7, 1-0 LC) won by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 27-25.

Senior Victoria Latino paced the Rangers (6-10, 0-1 LC) with 14 kills and 10 digs, good for her third double-double of the season. Junior Lindsey Millis added nine kills, seven digs, and three aces while classmate Corletta Harrison posted eight kills and six blocks. Junior Melissa Zack contributed seven kills and four blocks, and freshman Aaliyah Anderson totaled six kills and six blocks. Junior Aidyn Stone picked up 23 digs, and freshman Hailey Kenefick and senior Alyssa Rachwal handed out 19 and 18 assists, respectively.

Payton Reuber registered 15 kills to lead Moravian, which won its sixth match in a row.

The Rangers trailed 18-10 in the fourth before a reeling off an 11-1 run, which included back-to-back aces from Millis and a pair of kills from Zack. Drew was serving for set point following a kill from Latino, but the Greyhounds responded with the next three points to go up 25-24. Moravian then committed a service error, but the visitors clinched the match on a Drew service error and a kill from Gabbie Reigner.

Drew is back in Baldwin on Saturday, when it hosts its fourth tri-match of the season. The Rangers open with a Landmark Conference tilt with Wilkes University at noon before taking on Stevens Institute of Technology at 4 p.m.
