BOSTON and NEW YORK – Senior
Emily Camlet lowered her own records in the 200 and 400, leading a trio of Drew University women's track & field athletes at two different indoor meets on Saturday.
Camlet was competing with junior
Sage Hendershot at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational while senior
Kate Rice was in action on the NYU DIII Invitational at the Armory in New York City.
Camlet turned in another stellar showing in the 400-meter dash, placing 15th in a field of 35 of primarily Division I opponents. She clocked a time of 55.86 seconds to lower by one-hundredth of a second her own school and Landmark Conference records set just over a week earlier. That time also places her eighth on the Division III performance list for the season. She placed second in her heat behind only Akrisa Eristee of Sprint Tech and finished first among five Division III competitors in the event.
Camlet also competed in the 200-meter dash and broke her own school record with a time of 25.20 seconds – a mark that currently ranks 43rd in Division III. She won her heat by 0.19 seconds and dropped 0.16 seconds off her Drew record.
Hendershot competed in three events and placed 32nd in a field of 97 in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 25.70 seconds. She also competed in the 60-meter dash and finished 14th among 26 competitors with a time of 7.83 seconds. She is currently 32nd on the Division III performance list in the event with a season-best time of 7.73. In addition, Hendershot placed 20th in the long jump with a mark of 4.50 meters.
At NYU, Rice took to the track in the 3,000-meter run and finished 17th in a field of 23, racing to a time of 11:03.38.
Drew's entire team will return to action next Saturday at the Fastrack Last Chance Meet, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
