MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team capped a perfect four-match homestand with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Sarah Lawrence College Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
The Rangers (7-3), who are off to their best 10-match start in the team's five-year history, won by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 25-15, and 25-17.
Freshman
Lucas Mondin posted 10 kills and nine digs for the Rangers while sophomore
Matthew Adegbite registered eight kills and six digs. Sophomore
Quinn Donahue turned in 24 assists, kills, and seven digs, and senior
Barend Oostdam recorded six kills and three blocks. Senior
b contributed 16 digs.
Drew established control early in the match, outscoring the Gryphons 9-3 to start the night. Sarah Lawrence never led in the opening set, but it did pull to within 17-15. However, that's when the Rangers put the match away with a 5-0 run, which was bookended by kills from Oostdam and Adegbite.
Sarah Lawrence pulled even by winning the second set. The Gryphons won going away, ending the period on a 7-0 run.
The Rangers used strong starts before gradually pulling away in each of the last two sets, opening on a 7-2 run in the third and a 10-6 surge in the fourth.
Drew is back in action on Friday and Saturday, when they compete at the Springfield College Morgan Classic, starting with a match versus No. 20-ranked Hobart College on Friday at 8 p.m. The Rangers will face No. 1-ranked Springfield or No. 3-ranked Stevens in the consolation or championship match on Saturday at 6 or 8 p.m.
