Epic Rally Falls Just Short for Rangers at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University men's basketball team sliced a 20-point deficit down to one in the final minute, but host Elizabethtown College held on a for a 98-93 Landmark Conference victory Wednesday evening.
 
The Rangers (15-5, 9-4 LC) trailed 79-59 with 9:40 remaining before storming back with a 33-12 run, making it 92-91 following a layup from senior forward Kevin Cronin with 1:02 left. But the Blue Jays iced the game at the foul line, where they went 4-for-4 inside the final 23 seconds.
 
Senior forward David Musial posted 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Drew, which had six players score in double figures. Junior guard Eli Yusavage netted 15 points, and sophomore forward Ben Manns contributed 13 points off the bench while turning in a perfect shooting night, finishing 4-for-4 both from the field and at the foul line while knocking down his only 3-point attempt.
 
Junior guard Charlie Thornton added 12 points, sophomore guard Marc Herasme dropped 11 points, and senior guard Devon Musial recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. Cronin totaled six points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
 
Austin Finarelli led Etown (14-6, 7-6 LC) with 28 points and seven assists.
 
Drew climbed back into it by getting to the foul line, where they scored eight of the first 10 points of their late-game run. Later in the comeback, junior guard Andre De Los Reyes pulled the Rangers to within single digits (84-78) on a layup with 6:36 showing.
 
Elizabethtown led by seven with 3:28 to go, but that's when David Musial dropped in a layup before Yusavage drained a 3-pointer, making it 91-89 with 2:03 left.
 
After Cronin's aforementioned bucket made it a one-point game, Etown missed a shot before the Rangers committed a turnover. Reese Ziegler then hit two at the line to make it 94-91 before Drew turned it over again, and a Finarelli tip-in pushed the Jays' lead to 96-91.
 
David Musial made it a one-possession game once again with a layup at the seven-second mark, but that's when Ziegler set the final score with two more foul shots with four seconds left.
 
Elizabethtown opened the game on a 14-4 run, led for the rest of the half, and extended its lead to 16 with 3:18 left in the period. Manns cut the lead to eight with a triple at the 10-second mark, but Finarelli drained a 3 at the buzzer to put the hosts up 54-43 at the break.
 
The Blue Jays pushed their lead to 20 with 12:27 left following a 21-12 run to start the second half, setting up Drew's big comeback.
 
The Rangers continue a four-game road trip on Saturday, when they visit Goucher College at 2 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
