TOWSON, Md. – Freshmen Matteo Gruendig and Jayce Thoroughman have swept the Landmark Conference Baseball Athlete of the Week awards, conference officials announced on Monday.

The pair helped the Rangers go 6-1 over the past week, which included a series victory at Catholic University in Drew's Landmark Conference opener.

Gruendig, a second baseman, was named Athlete of the Week after batting .588 (10-for-17) and scoring nine runs over six games and four starts. In his top performance, he went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs in Drew's 5-4 victory over Utica in its spring break finale in Florida. He also went 5-for-9 over his two starts in the Rangers' series versus Catholic. He went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in a 15-5 victory, and he was also 2-for-5 in a 10-2 win over the Cardinals, helping the Rangers to their first series win over Catholic since 2018.

For the season, Gruendig is batting .500 with nine runs scored.

Thoroughman captured Pitcher of the Week recognition after going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 14 strikeouts over two starts and 12 innings pitched for the Rangers, highlighted by a stellar showing at Catholic in the series finale. He allowed only two hits and one run while striking out eight over seven innings. He blanked the Cardinals over the first seven innings and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. Thoroughman also earned his first career win in Drew's 12-1, seven-inning victory over Roger Williams in Florida, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out six over five innings of work.

Over four appearances and three starts for the season, Thoroughman has gone 2-0 with a 2.78 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings pitched.

The Rangers (8-4, 2-1 LC) play their home opener on Thursday, when they host CCNY in a non-conference tilt starting at 3:30 p.m.
