WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team raced out to an 8-1 lead, capped by five straight goals from graduate student
Joost van der Horst, and the Rangers topped host Lycoming College 21-2 in its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday.
Van der Horst finished with seven goals and one assist on the day, and his seven tallies were the most by a Ranger since Craig Wilkie C'23 scored seven times versus Merchant Marine on March 18, 2023.
Ten different players scored a goal for the Rangers (4-3, 1-0 LC), who piled up a 73-17 shot advantage. Freshman
Yaneik Gallego posted three goals and four assists while sophomore
Vincent Rubio contributed three goals and one helper. Freshman
Kullen Mcdermott contributed two goals and one assist.

Gabriel Gutierrez turned in a big day on faceoffs, finishing 20-for-25 with 12 ground balls, and classmate
Eli Sanford added seven GBs of his own.

Josef Zengerle aided the defensive effort with three caused turnovers while senior
Sawyer Kennedy collected three saves while playing the first quarter in net. Junior
Joe Barnish turned aside a pair of shots over the middle two quarter while sophomore

Luca LeClaire notched one save each in the fourth quarter.
Evan Donnelly made 22 saves for the Warriors (2-5, 0-1 LC).
After Lycoming scored the game's first goal, the Rangers responded with eight in a row, starting with consecutive tallies from Rubio. Sophomore
Joseph Carabetta followed up with a goal at the 5:44 mark of the first quarter before van der Horst took over with his five-goal flurry, which took less than nine minutes to achieve. He scored his first goal of the run with 2:50 left in the opening quarter before cashing in twice before the end of the period to make it 6-1 heading into the second stanza. He capped his scoring spree with two more over the opening 5:48 of the period.
The Warriors scored with 7:42 left in the first half, but Drew responded with a 5-0 run before halftime, receiving goals from five different players to assume a commanding 13-2 lead at the break.
The Rangers went on to outscore Lyco 8-0 in the second half, when Gallego netted his final two goals.
Drew returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Moravian University at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
