Women’s Track & Field Wins Battle of Madison Avenue, Competes at Ramapo

MADISON and MAHWAH, N.J. – The Drew University women's track & field team turned in a number of outstanding performances this past weekend at two different meets.
 
The majority of the team competed at the Battle of Madison Avenue, held at FDU-Florham on Sunday. The Rangers won the team title, scoring 65 points to beat out FDU (56), Saint Elizabeth (11), Lehman (8), and Northwood Athletic Club (7).
 
Several Rangers also competed at the Ramapo Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Senior Emily Camlet turned in the team's top performance, besting a field of 45 in the 800-meter run on Saturday. She clocked a time of 2:20.08, lowering her own school record by a second and a half while finishing nearly a full second ahead of her nearest competitor, Lizzie Lowe of Vassar College.
 
Also at Ramapo, senior Kate Rice placed ninth in a field of 30 in the 5,000-meter run, clocking a time of 19:36.29. In addition, junior Sophia Kim became the first Ranger in Drew women's track & field history to run the 10,000-meter run and recorded a time of 41:35.78 for the 25-lap event, placing seventh out of 12 competitors.
 
At FDU, the Rangers racked up seven event victories. Senior Lauren Rizzolo led the way with wins in both the discus (32.09m/105-3) and the hammer (36.44m/119-6), lowering her own school record in the former, and she added a third-place finish in the javelin (29.40m/96-5).
 
Adding one victory apiece were sophomore Isabella Fortunato in the 800-meter run (2:36.71), Rice in the 1,500-meter run (5:22.50), and freshman Laiana Anderson in the triple jump (9.04m/29-8).
 
Drew also won the 4x400-meter relay, as Hendershot, Kim, Fortunato, and Rice were timed at 4:35.73.
 
Hendershot also placed second in both the 100-meter dash (12.76) and the 200-meter dash (26.76). She was the top collegiate finisher in the 100, an event in which she was clocked at 12.53 in prelims.
 
Also placing second were Rice in the 800 (2:37.33), Kim in the 1,500 (5:27.96), and freshman Zyen Haynesworth in the hammer (34.08m/111-9).
 
Adding third-place finishes were Anderson in the 100 (13.94) and the long jump (4.20m/13-9 1/2); junior Sarah Hattan in the 800 (2:39.12) and 1,500 (5:34.83); Haynesworth in the shot put (8.91m/29-2 3/4), and senior Dejanayha Hill in the hammer (33.52m/109-11).
 
The Rangers are back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Ursinus College Track & Field Invitational.
