MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team continued its challenging 2026 schedule on Friday in Baldwin Gym but came up on the short end of a 3-0 decision to No. 20-ranked Vassar College.
It was the fifth nationally-ranked opponent the Rangers have faced this season, and they scored over 20 points in each of the last two sets in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 loss.
Sophomore
Quinn Donahue posted 19 assists, seven kills, and three blocks for Drew (9-10) while classmate
Gio Martin also threw down seven kills. Freshman
Lucas Mondin notched six kills and seven digs, and sophomore
Matthew Adegbite posted kills as well. Sophomore
Eric Forget added eight dgs.
In the opening set, the Rangers and Brewers went back and forth early, and a kill from Donahue put Drew up 13-12. But that's when Vassar scored seven straight points to open up a 19-13 lead.
Vassar bolted to a 16-9 lead in the second set, but the Rangers did not go quietly and used a late 4-0 run to make it 22-20. But that's as close as Drew would get as the two sides traded points the rest of the way.
The Rangers led for most of the third set and were on top 16-12 after a kill from Mondin. Drew still led 18-16 following another Mondin termination, but the Brewers answered with a 3-0 spurt to take the lead. Drew tied it on four occasions down the stretch, the last coming on a Vassar service error that made it 23-23. But the Brewers won it with back-to-back points to clinch the match.
Drew is back in action next Friday, when it hosts Hunter College in another non-conference affair.
