Zeer Reaches Milestone in Loss to Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Riley Zeer scored his 100th career point, but Susquehanna University pulled away in the fourth quarter to hand the Drew University men's lacrosse team a 14-9 setback in Landmark Conference play on Saturday.
 
The Rangers (6-6, 3-3 LC) trailed just 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter when the River Hawks (7-7, 4-2 LC) closed the game on a 5-1 run.
 
Zeer reached his milestone on his second assist of the first quarter. He now has 71 goals and 28 assists over the last three years at Drew after scoring a pair of goals at York (Pa.) as a freshman. He finished the day with one goal and two assists.
 
Drew out-shot Susquehanna 57-40, but River Hawk goalie Will Harcourt made 21 saves.
 
Freshman Yaneik Gallego finished with four goals and one assist for the Rangers while sophomore Joseph Carabetta posted two goals, two assists, and four ground balls. Senior Salvatore Desiderio contributed three caused turnovers and four ground balls while freshman Josef Zengerle registered three GBs and three CTs.
 
Senior Sawyer Kennedy started in goal and made two saves and allowed six goals in the first half before junior Joe Barnish stopped five shots and yielded eight goals in the second half.
 
Pat McDermott led the River Hawks offensively with seven goals and four assists.
 
It was a 3-3 game at the end of first quarter, when Gallego scored two of his goals. He struck again in the second quarter, and sophomore Nick Carabetta tossed in a goal with 1:38 left in the opening half, pulling the Rangers to within 6-5 at the break.
 
Each side scored three goals in the third quarter. After Susquehanna went ahead 9-6, Gallego and Zeer each scored inside the final two minutes of the period to make it a one-goal game heading into the final period.
 
The River Hawks struck twice early in the final stanza before Joseph Carabetta connected with 7:41 left to make it 11-9. But that's when Susquehanna ended the game on a 3-0 run.
 
The Rangers return home on Wednesday, when they take on Elizabethtown College at 6 p.m. in another Landmark Conference matchup.
