MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's track & field team won five individual events and captured the Battle of Madison Avenue on Saturday at FDU-Florham.
The Rangers posted a team score of 149 points to finish in front of Division II Dominican (114) and FDU (101). Other collegiate competitors were Rutgers-Newark (fourth, 70), Farmingdale State (fifth, 51), Mount Saint Mary (seventh, 22), Bergen CC (17), and CC of Philadelphia (6).
Senior
Emily Camlet led the Rangers with victories in both the 400- and 200-meter dash. In the 400, she cruised to a season-best time of 56.44 seconds to win the event by 2.34 seconds while improving her standing on the Division III performance list to 24th. Camlet also prevailed in a field of 22 in the 200, lowering her own school record to 25.00 seconds.
Sophomore
Lauryn Brown also won an event with a school-record performance, as she leaped 11.68 meters (38-4) in the triple jump to improve upon her own Drew standard. In addition, senior
Kate Rice added a victory in the 5,000-meter run (19:58.53).
Drew also earned a victory in the 4x100-meter relay, as freshman
Laiana Anderson, Brown, junior
Sage Hendershot, and Camlet clocked a time of 50.47 seconds.
Hendershot also placed second out of 21 athletes and was the top collegiate finisher in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.35 seconds. Brown also took second in the long jump (5.04 meters/16-6 1/2), as did junior
Sophia Kim in the 5000 (20:40.59), junior
Sarah Hattan in the 1500-meter run (5:34.88), and sophomore
Isabella Fortunato in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.27), as she also became the first women's athlete in team history to compete in the event.
Sophomore
Perri Rubin placed third in the 5000 (22:05.41), as did classmate
Bella Polizzi in the 800-meter run (2:40.41) and senior
Lauren Rizzolo in the javelin (29.48 meters/96-8).
The Rangers are back in action on Friday and Saturday, when they compete the Lehigh University Covert Classic.
