SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. – Led by medalist
Elliot Parker, the Drew University men's golf team won the Conquer the Island tournament, held at the Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort.
The Rangers used the event as a tune-up for this weekend's Landmark Conference Championships, which will be held at the same course.
Drew shot a 289 to win the tournament by 13 strokes over runner-up Scranton. It was the second straight victory for the Rangers' primary squad and their fifth of the season. The Stevens "B" team followed with a 310 while Drew's "B" team took fourth with a 313.
The Rangers used the event as a tune-up for this weekend's Landmark Conference Championships, which will be held at the same course.
Parker fired a 4-under-par 68, defeating Scranton's Richard Essen by three strokes for his fourth victory of the season. He recorded five birdies and shot even-par on 12 other holes. Sophomore
Sam Dolan took third in the field of 40 with a 72, shooting par on all but two holes.
Senior
Shiv Bhaskar was Drew's third finisher, placing fifth with a 74. He carded two birdies and eagled the par-5 sixth hole.
Junior
Avery Cohen rounded out the team scoring, tying for sixth with a 75. Junior
Thomas Hurley also competed for the primary squad and tied for 15th with a 78.
The B team was paced by junior
Eric Castner and freshman
Noah Erickson who tied for ninth with a 76. Senior
Liam Larkin tied for 19th with an 80, and classmate
Max Conklin was one stroke back, tying for 23rd. Senior
Ryan Ricci was also in action and placed 31st with an 85.
The Landmark Conference Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday back at Shawnee.
