Camlet Wins 400 to Lead Women’s Track & Field at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – Senior Emily Camlet won the 400-meter dash to lead the Drew University women's track & field team on Friday at the Rick McCorkle Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey.
 
Camlet was timed at 56.74 for the one-lap event to prevail in a field of 30 Division I, II, III athletes. She finished 0.89 seconds in front of her nearest competitor, Caden Simpson of Division I Monmouth. Camlet remains undefeated in the event this spring, posting five straight victories. 
 
Camlet and junior Sage Hendershot turned in one third-place showing each. Camlet was timed at 25.34 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which consisted of 41 athletes, while Hendershot clocked a time of 12.53 seconds, taking on 21 competitors in the 100-meter dash. They were both the second Division III finisher in their events.
 
Sophomore Lauryn Brown also turned in an impressive showing, placing fifth among 15 competitors in the triple jump, leaping 11.14 meters (36-3 3/4). She was the top Division III finisher, jumping nearly two feet farther than her closer DIII opponent. In addition, she came in ninth in a field of 28 in the long jump with a mark of 5.22 meters (17-1 1/2).
 
Senior Kate Rice also placed in the top half of her field, placing 17th out of 42 harriers in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:13.06.
 
Drew also had several field athletes compete at the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University. Senior Lauren Rizzolo posted the team's top finish, placing 10th out of 28 throwers in the hammer with a launch of 40.86 meters (134-0) while adding over five feet to her own school record.
 
The Rangers now compete at the Landmark Conference Championships, held May 2-3 at Juniata College.
