HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Drew University women's track & field team scored in four different events on the opening day of the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday at Juniata College.
The Rangers scored 12 points and are currently in sixth place in the team standings, leading both Juniata (7.5) and Goucher College (0).
Junior
Sage Hendershot turned in the top finals performance for Drew, finishing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.01 meters (16-5 1/4).
Senior
Lauren Rizzolo placed fifth in the hammer throw with a launch of 40.94 meters (134-4), improving upon her own school record by nearly three meters.
Junior
Sophia Kim finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 41:31.09, as she lowered her own school record by four seconds. Sophomore
Lauryn Brown added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.90 meters (16-1).
Six other Rangers competed in Saturday's finals. In the 1500-meter run, senior
Kate Rice placed 18th (5:21.33), junior
Sarah Hattan took 19th (5:25.15), and sophomore
Perri Rubin placed 22nd (5:39.45). Senior
Dejanayha Hill placed 22nd in the hammer (30.95 meters/101-6) while freshman
Zyen Haynesworth was 24th in both the hammer (26.55 meters/87-1) and the shot put (7.92 meters/26-0). In addition, freshman
Laina Anderson finished 22nd in the long jump (4.10 meters/13-5 1/2).
The second and final day of the championship begins on Sunday with field events at 11 a.m. and track events at noon.
