Andrew Dunne Scores Twice as Rangers Blank Pioneers

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Andrew Dunne scored two goals and the Drew University men's soccer team rolled to its second win in a row, blanking William Paterson University 3-0 in a non-conference affair Tuesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

It was the first career multi-goal game for Dunne, who helped the Rangers (2-1-2) to a season-high scoring total.

Drew (2-1-2) yielded only five shots for the game, including just two on frame, and has now posted a shutout in four of their five games thus far.

Senior Donovan Friedhoff, the reigning Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, stopped two shots for his fourth shutout of the year and his third consecutive clean sheet.

Senior Ignacio Martinez gave Drew the upper hand early, striking in the sixth minute. Sophomore Matt Munoz helped create the offense with a blast from the right side that was deflected by goalie Riccardo Prati before Martinez drilled in a rebound for his first goal of the season.

Dunne made it a two-goal game in the 34th minute. Junior Turkcan Curak sent a perfect through ball up the left side the field, hitting Dunne in stride. Dunne made two touches before booting a shot inside the back post for his first tally of the year.

It remained a 2-0 game until the 86th minute, when Dunne dribbled around three defenders before launching a long shot off the keeper's fingertips and into the back of the net.

The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Rutgers-Camden in another non-conference tilt starting at 1 p.m.
