Women’s Volleyball Battles Lebanon Valley to Five Sets at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Drew University women's volleyball team came ever-so-close to capturing its first victory of the season, battling Lebanon Valley College to a tough five-set loss in the opening match of the second and final day at the Salisbury University Margie Knight Classic.
 
The Rangers captured the opening set 25-21 before LVC went up 2-1 after taking the next two sets 25-14 and 25-17. Drew pulled even by winning the fourth set 25-20 before the Flying Dutchmen won a nailbiter in the deciding game, 15-13.
 
In its final match of the day, Drew lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-7, 25-17) to Muskingum University.
 
Against Lebanon Valley, junior Lindsey Millis led a well-rounded offense attack, posting a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs. Senior Victoria Latino recorded nine kills, seven digs, and four blocks while freshman Jessica Donnelly added nine kills on .348 hitting. Freshman Aaliyah Anderson contributed eight kills and five blocks. Senior Alyssa Rachwal and sophomore Cristina Coombs added 27 and 16 assists, respectively, while junior Aidyn Stone scooped 17 digs.
 
Latino posted nine kills versus Muskingum while Rachwal distributed 12 assists. Stone recorded another 17 digs.
 
The Rangers led 3-0 in the final set versus Lebanon Valley answered with a 4-0 run. It was tied 7-7 after a kill from Millis before the Dutchmen scored the next two points to take the lead for good. Drew pulled to within one on six more occasions, the last coming on an LVC attack error that made it 14-13, before the Valley scored the final point.
 
Drew returns to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Cedar Crest College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
