Drew Draws With Hawks in the Rain

Drew 0, SUNY New Paltz 0

In their annual bad weather matchup, the Drew Rangers women's soccer team and the SUNY-New Paltz Hawks tied 0-0 in freezing rain at Ranger Stadium.  Drew outshot the Hawks 15-3 and had the game's two best chances, but was stymied by the weather and the Hawks' Stephanie Vega.  For the third straight season this match-up went into the second overtime period and for the second time in those three years, the teams ended up in a scoreless tie.  Kim Jaikissoon made one save for Drew (5-6-2) while stretching the Rangers' scoreless streak to 327 minutes.  Vega made six saves for New Paltz (4-7-4).

In the driving rain, the teams played a largely uneventful first half.  In fact, the game didn't spring to life until the 80th minute when the Rangers had the best chance of the game.  Kim Miranowic crushed a free kick from 25 yards out that looked to be headed for the top left corner.  Vega made a nice effort to get a piece of the shot and tip it onto the post.  The rebound fell in front of goal, but Emily Weida was unable to get her touch on target.

The Hawks had one chance late in the game, but Drew's Kim Jaikissoon was quick off her line to squash the threat.

In the first overtime period, Weida sent in a dangerous cross from the left, but it was a step too far in front of Megan Fogarty at the far post.

That was it for the game as it ended in a dreary draw.  Both teams looked anxious to get off the field and into warmer climes.

The Rangers have little to look forward to in terms of weather, as they will travel out to snowy Huntington, PA to face Juniata on Saturday, but that match with the Eagles presents one of Drew's most important contests of the season.
