Drew women's soccer suffered its first loss in October, 1-0, at William Paterson on Thursday night. The Pioneers, who are coming off a win over #16 TCNJ, made a 14th minute goal from Michelle Marabondo stand up for the home victory. Kim Jaikissoon made four saves for Drew in goal.
The Pioneers controlled the match from the start; Drew was able to get off just two shots in the game and only Courtney Carnevale's attempt in the 24th minute troubled William Paterson keeper Meaghan Baker. By that time though, the Pioneers had already scored what would be the game-winner. Marabondo turned in Samantha Pena's assist in the 14th minute.
Things could have gotten worse for the Rangers in the second half, but Kim Jaikissoon saved a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. The stop was the middle of three early in the half that kept Drew in the game.
The loss is the Rangers first of October and breaks Drew's four match unbeaten streak. Overall, the Rangers are now 6-7-2 on the season, but more importantly 3-1 in the Landmark Conference. Drew needs either a win in one of its next two matches or a Scranton loss to Juniata to clinch a Landmark playoff berth.
