Greenburg's Lone Goal Proves Enough
Box Score
SCRANTON, Pa. (October 9, 2010) - This afternoon, Drew (10-1-1, 3-0 Landmark) played in a game that could not have been more even, both teams ended with 14 total shots, three corner kicks and both goalies had six saves. The differentiating factor was the sole goal the Rangers were able to tack on to bring the win back to New Jersey.
Scranton (4-7-1, 0-3 Landmark) took control offensively in the first half outshooting the Rangers 9-5 landing four on goal. One step behind, but not out, the men of Drew were still able to get three shots on goal in the first half. Not able to find the back of the net on either end, the teams went into the half matched at nil.
The Rangers came out running in the second half and jumped ahead early. In the 51st minute Captain
Matthew Greenberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Indian Hills) blasted the ball from outside the eighteen past Scranton's diving goaltender. This goal is the fifth of the 2010 season for Greenberg. Wanting to add some cushion, Drew took eight more shots in the second but were not able to put them home. Nonethless, the insurance goals were unecessary as Greenberg's sole goal was enough to secure the victory.
In goal for the Rangers,
Jeff Rogers (Eldersburg, Md. / Century) collected his 25th shutout of his career. Rogers is now tied for third in Drew history for number of career shutouts.
The Rangers continue their strong start in conference play, staying undeafeted through three. Men's Soccer will return to action this Wednesday, October 13th at 7 p.m. when they travel to Muhlenberg.
