Rangers Rally to Move into Championship
Box Score
POMONA, N.J. (November 13, 2010) - In round two of the Battle of Mad Ave the Rangers once again defeated cross-street rival FDU by the score of 2-1 to advance to the ECAC Championship game on Sunday.
Ironically, the two Madison based schools played each other over 100 miles away at Stockton College this afternoon with the same result as the last meeting, a Drew win. The two teams didn't muster up any offense in the in first half of play with no goals and combined five shots on goal.
The second half was a different story as both teams tallied all three of the games goals. Farleigh Dickinson struck first in the 58th minute on an unassisted goal from Brittany Kanickij to make score 1-0. The lead would not last long as freshman
Kiana Lundy (Boonton Twp., N.J/Mountain Lakes) answered with her second goal of the year off a pass from
Christine Meconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood).
With the game tied at one, Meconi would be the one to put the Rangers up for good with just under 20 minutes left in the game. Classmate
Emily Tine (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) picked up her third assist of the year on the gamewinning goal.
In a credit to the Ranger defense, goalkeeper
Kim Jaikisson (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) only had to make one of her five saves in the second half to help drew capture its 14th win of the year.
The Rangers will take on the seventh seeded SUNY-Brockport tomorrow who upset hosts Richard Stockton with a 3-2 overtime win. Game time is set for 1:00 at Richard Stockon College.
